Nice catalog...it would be helpful to have additional mp3 samples.

The printing and layout of Morley's First Booke of Canzonets are player-friendly. The book lies open flat to each two-page duet, with no page turns. The pieces use all three clefs and are scored AA, TT, or TB. One piece includes high D a few times; most pieces don't go above C or Bb. One bass clef part goes down to Eb; otherwise you don't need an F attachment. This music is interesting, with lots of fun Renaissance rhythms and cadences. Both voices have melodic lines all the time. Originally written either for two voices or for two viols or recorders, these duets work well on trombones. For example, scoring "Il Lamento" for two altos (or two tenors playing rather high) is appropriate for the tight harmonies and crossing lines. Holland's decision to be sparing with tempo and interpretive markings leaves the players with appropriate artistic leeway. The dynamics and, especially, phrasing he does include make good sense.

"Melody in A Major" by Dawes is a wonderful piece that I recommend highly. It is high, but lays well on the trombone. Working with Robert to rent the band parts was smooth and easy. A wonderful piece to consider for your future programming.
